instructor development

The PADI Instructor Development Course is designed to further develop the leadership and teaching abilities of PADI Divemasters to the Assistant Instructor and Open Water Instructor levels. The PADI IDC provides individuals who already possess instructor-level dive theory, role model watermanship and rescue skills, and leadership abilities with additional training that allows them to implement the PADI system in confined water, classroom and open water environments. The IDC also helps instructor candidates gain a complete understanding of PADIs educational goals and philiosophies. The PADI IDC begins with independent learning and encompasses both the assistant instructor course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor program.
COURSE PROGRAMME
The new programme takes place over 8 days. The first 2 days cover theory and this can be done in the classroom, or if you prefer online. To undertake the theory section online click here. Whether you choose to do it on line or not, the course cost is the same as the amount you pay for the online section is deducted from the course. On day 3 of the programme we will run you through the EFR Instructors course, a prerequisite to becoming an Open Water Instructor. The following 6 days are then dedicated to the IDC. If you are already an AI you will need to complete the first theory section (either online or in the classroom, and the last 4 days.
WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE? We are extremely fortunate as we can run IDCs and training in two locations. We hold regular programmes in our Portsmouth Dive Centre, however, we have recently ventured out and can offer IDCs at our new dive centre branch in Egypt. The courses in Egypt are run by highly experienced Platignum Course Director, Ed Poore, who has joined our team of instructors. Ed knows Egypt well and has his own dive centre in Dahab. We use his facilities, however,
Ed is working for us so your course is through Triton Scuba. Why go to Egypt - the cost is the same, with the exception of flights, but you also get the opportunity to undertake the training in nice warm water and the advantage of seeing how we operate an overseas dive centre.
WHAT DOES IT COST? The cost of the IDC on its own is £750. This does not include materials or registration fees. Note cross overs from BSAC and HM Forces personnel have an additional 2 days of training which is required to ensure success as a PADI Instructor. Contact the dive centre for details and costs.
FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR TRAINING The Emergency First Response Instructor courses is conducted at the beginning of the IDC and is a requirement for becoming a PADI instructor (unless you already have a first aid instructor qualification with another agency). Their is an additional cost of £350 for the EFR Instructor qualification which includes materials and registration fees.
