VHF Radio

radiojohnOver the past few years, marine communications have been revolutionized by the introduction of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). This system is designed to ensure that ships anywhere can communicate with a rescue co-ordination centre. Whilst yachts and small craft are not required to carry radios, if they do, they are required to be competent and qualified to use it. This one day RYA Short Range VHF (including GMDS) radio users course covers the rules and procedures with practical training and computer simulation.  This course can also be taken online.  Choosing this option allows you to learn the essentials of using a radio and the GMDSS system in the comfort of your own home and saves you money.  On completion you will attend a 2-3 hour exam at our training centre.  The cost of the course is £135 and includes the RYA VHF handbook.  In addition you will need to pay £60 for the RYA exam fee.
