“We were recently informed about the breakage under pressure of a TITAN DIN screw, weakened during service by manual torque greater than the recommended values.  Aqualung asks all the owners of TITAN DIN regulators which have a serial number lower than 6062501 (the number is found on the first stage casing) and / or whose DIN screw is marked “300 BAR MAX” to return their regulators to an authorized Aqualung Dealer (yes we are an authorized dealer). "

RECALL NOTICE FOR OCEANIC DX REGULATORS

October 23, 2007– San Leandro, CA – Oceanic has been notified by its supplier (ROMI, Ent.) that they have received isolated reports of DX type Regulator First Stages exhibiting uncontrolled flow of air to the Second Stage.

Evaluation has shown that a specific batch of HP (High Pressure) Seats contained material that can deteriorate and fail to properly perform its mechanical sealing (shut off) function, causing an uncontrollable free flow which could result in serious injury to or death of the user.

In cooperation with the U. S. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), ROMI is initiating a voluntary recall of all affected CDX5 and FDX10 (diaphragm) type First Stages.

The affected First Stages include those that were shipped to Oceanic Retailers from the factory between May 1, 2006 and November 15, 2006. Other model DX type First Stages, such as the CDX, DXi, DX3, DX4, and TDX5, that received annual service between May 1, 2006, and October 22, 2007, may also be affected.

NOTE: Due to the random nature utilized to assign SNs (serial numbers) to First Stages, there is only a small quantity of affected units within the large range of SNs. Since the extent of listing the actual SNs of all affected units would be impractical and not user friendly, Oceanic has created a data base on the OceanicWorldwide web site that product owners and retailers can easily access to determine whether a specific First Stage is affected and if it has received the retrofit.

If you have an affected unit, you must discontinue further use of it and take it to the Oceanic Dealer where you purchased it, or a local Authorized Oceanic Service Center, for a component retrofit at no charge.

If you no longer own the DX (diaphragm) type Regulator First Stage, please forward this letter to the new owner or have them contact us directly.

WARNING: DO NOT CONTINUE USE of the Regulator First Stage until it receives a Retrofit. Only Authorized Oceanic Dealers and their trained service technicians must perform this Retrofit. Non authorized persons who attempt the Retrofit procedure risk voiding the product’s warranty and rendering the product dangerously unsafe for SCUBA use.

IDEST BULLETIN ON CYLINDER VALVE MAINTENANCE

In the IDEST Bulletin for January they have made recommendations on the frequency of cylinder valve servicing:

"DfT and UKAS have expressed concern that some technicians fully strip and service the cylinder valve at every inspection while others appear to do so if it appears necessary.  We have discussed this matter often and at the two members' symposia held at Luxfor, there was a unanimous vote for all to undertake a full service of the cylinder valve at each inspection/test".

So, from now on, when you have you cylinder tested, the valve will need to be serviced at the same time.  This will add on a cost, but what price safety.

SCUBAPRO X650 SECOND STAGE REGULATORS- PRODUCT RECALL

Scubapro have announced the voluntary recall of some of its X650 second-stage regulators.  These were sold in the UK between November 2004 and May 2006. Due to a manufacturing defect, the main housing of some regulators could become deformed over time, causing the cover and diaphragm to become dislodged. If this occurs, air flow will be interrupted and the regulator will no longer function. For more information click here to be taken to the Scubapro website.  Feel free to call into the centre if you require any assistance.

OCEANIC RELIANT BCD POWER INFLATOR

Oceanic has been informed by its supplier that they have received isolated reports of BC Inflator mechanisms exhibiting continual flow of air into the BC after release of the inflation button.  Affected are the reliant model inflators (mainly found on the Oceanpro FX BCD).  Testing and evaluation has shown that the button may stick in the depressed position.  Engineers have designed new replacement parts that will prevent this from happening.  Oceanic asks that all owners of Oceanic BCs that have Reliant Inflators, return them to an authorized Oceanic dealer for a retrofit at no charge.

AQUALUNG OCTOPUS ABS

Aqua Lung has determined that it is possible under certain circumstances, for one or both of the exhaust valves on the ABS Octopus to be become inverted.  Inverted means that the edge of the exhaust valve can get lodged between two of the spokes of the seating surface.  This could happen during the after dive rinsing process if the valves are hit with a stream of high pressure water from a hose for example.  This could result in an aspiration of water which in turn could lead to panic or injury.  To protect the valve from inverting, Aqua Lung has redesigned the exhaust grid that covers the exhaust valves.  If you own an Aqualung ABS Octopus regulator, please bring it to our servicing centre.  We will exchange the grid at no charge.  The replacement procedure is quick and can normally be undertaken while you wait.

AQUA LUNG POWERLINE AIRWAY RIBBED HOSE REPLACEMENT

Aqua Lung has received reports that some of the ribbed hoses on the Powerline Airway have been tearing at the top near the dual exhaust valve.  The problem has been traced to an error in the molding process from the component supplier, that occurred over a three month period between 2001 and 2002.  To confirm whether or not you have one of the questionable hoses look at the serial number on the lower unit of the Powerline (inflator hose).  If the serial number falls within the range of M48H to M52H, or M011 to M081 and it is the original hose, then please bring it into our servicing centre for replacement.
